below are some of the most unusual selections Barcelona

del Calçat (Shoe Museum). Plaça
Sant Felip Neri 5, (933014533), reproductions and
original pieces
from the first through twentieth centuries including
some shoes belonging to some very famous figures, 2€ admission,
closed Mondays.
Museu
de la Xocolata (Chocolate
Museum). Plaça
Pons I Clrech, (932687878), traces the history of chocolate
from its origins through its diffusion around the
world, and displays a strange series of sculptures
made out of chocolate, also a yummy cafeteria
and a bookstore, 3,60€ admission,
closed Tuesdays.

del Clavegueram (Sewer
Museum). P/
de Sant Joan, (934576550), traces the history of
sewer systems from Babylonian
times to the present, on weekends you can actually
tour part of the Barcelona sewer system, 2€ admission,
closed Mondays.
Museu
de Corrosses Fúnebres (Funeral
Hearse Museum). c/ Sancho
de Avila 2, (934841700), a collection of funeral
carriages
and hearses used in Barcelona over the past three
centuries, free admission, closed Sundays.
Museu
de la Música (Museum
of Music). Av/ Diagonal 373, situated
in a beautiful modernist building, the museum houses
a particularly good collection of guitars among other
instruments.

at the bottom of las Ramblas, tacky but fun at the
same time.

The Museum of Erotica was created in the very heart

Barcelona
with the
clear intention of furnishing
the city with a center of didactic information, both
interesting and ludic, based on a monographic theme,

Events
Fútbol
is over by summer, but there are other somewhat
less followed "spectator" sports
in town.
Barça
Football. Box

but unfortunately the season is over by the time summer
really rolls around.
Barcelona Dragons. American
football team plays Sundays at 19:00 from April to June
in Estadi Olimpic de Montjuic, tickets available at box
office or in Servi-Caixa, 10-15 €.
Barcelona Cricket Club. (934882852)
a non-professional club team that plays matches on the
weekends.
World Swimming Championships. The
prestigious international event will be held between
July 13 and July 27 in venues around the city, for more

cult, and alternative films all in VO generally
themed around a specific idea, period, or director.

neighborhood for a drink or dinner after the
movie.

Views
Nice way
to kill some time on a sunny day and get your
bearings in the city.
Telef'eric de Montjüic. (934430849)
accessible via the Montjüic funicular, catch
a fabulous view of the city from the sky in
cable
cars
that
run
up
the
side
of the
mountain, stopping at the amusement park and
the castle at the top.
Transborador
Aeri. (933175527)
these cable cars offer and even better view
of the city and port as they run between Barceloneta
and Montjüic, open 11:00 to 21:00 June
through October and afternoons the rest of
the year.
Funicular de Tibidabo. (932117942)
a series of bus and tram take you up to the
top of Tibidabo where you will find both an
amusement park and a large church offering
the most spectacular views of the city down
to the
Mediterranean.

Pools, Beaches
Platja
Barceloneta. The
local Mediterranean beach is often crowded but is just
a short walk down the boardwalk from metro Barceloneta,
most people prefer to lounge but other activities including
beach volleyball and surfing have their fans as well.
Public Pools. If you prefer
the pool to the sea there are many public pools in the
city that you can enter for about 5-10€ per day.

Games
and Amusement Parks
Bowling Pedralbes. (933330352)
metro Collblanc, reasonable rates for renting shoes and
bowling, playing pool, or playing football, a good place
to kill a gray afternoon, to start the night out, or to
make a night of it, both the lanes and the bar are open
from 10:00 am until at least 2:30 am
on weekends.
Central Golf. (932258100) on the ocean in the Maremagnum
complex, outdoor eighteen hole mini-golf course with all sorts of obstacles.
Parc d'Atraccions del Tibidabo. (932117942) Plaça Tibidabo
3,
the small amusement park at the top of Tibidabo gives an unparalleled view of
the city, and the rides are all the more impressive because they hang
off
the
mountain side, call ahead because the schedule seems to change every month.
Parc d'Atraccions de Montjüic. (934417024) av/
Mirmar, the other small amusement park in the city can be reached by a ride on
the Teleferic. |
Art
Galleries
Calle Montcada. Well
respected contemporary art galleries line this street,
including Galaría Maeght, Galaría Contrast,
and several galleries specializing in Dalí, Miró
and Picasso prints.
L'Eixample. Several
independent galleries are located in the area where c/
Consell de Cent, c/ Balmes, y Rambla de Catalunya meet.
