SEMANA
SANTA One
week leading up to Easter. While not as elaborate
as in some cities, this celebration does include
religious processions, floats, and penitents marching
along Calle Carme in the
Raval.

April
23. A traditional holiday when men and women exchange
roses and books.
FERIA
DE ABRIL
Located in the neighborhood around Metro Selva Mar
(Poblenou), modeled after Sevilla´s
traditional month-long festival, including food,
drink, stalls, and authentic flamenco dancing.

DE TREBALL (May Day) May
1. Barcelona takes a day off to honor the worker.
Labor demonstrations and marches often take place
between
Pg. de Gracia and Plaça Sant Jaume.
SANT PONÇ
May 11. Located on c/ Hospital at Metro Liceu,
vendors in their stalls at
this street fair sell honey, herbs, sweet
wine,
perfumes,
and
candied
fruits.
SALÓ DE L´AUTOMÒBIL At
the Fira de Barcelona at Metro Espanya, a bianual
automobile show
showing off
both the latest models and a collection of vintage
cars.
MARATÓ DE L´ESPECTACLE Located
at c/ Lleida 59, Metro Espanya, this weekend-long
alternative arts
performance festival includes comedians, theater,
music, and other performance arts.
FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL
DE POESIA DE BARCELONA Taking
place in the spectacular Palau de la Musica, Metro
Jaime I, this evening is devoted to both internacional
and catalan poetry readings.
FESTA DE LA BICICLETA A
day when thousands of people around the city take
to their bikes, leaving their
cars and motos behind. Rent a bike and join in on the
boardwalk or up Diagonal.

L´OU
COM BALLA On
Corpus Christi and the following Sunday an ancient
tradition takes place in the Cathedral cloister and
in the Barrio Gotico. Hollowed
egg shells are left to bob in the water of elaborately
garlanded fountains decorated for the occasion.
TROBADA
CASTELLERA Ever
seen a child standing on a man's shoulders... while
he is balancing high in the air on a tower of men six
people high? It's nothing short of amazing and worth
a gawk. The casteller groups come from all around Barcelona
and the region to build their human towers in Plaça
Catalunya during this festival.
SANT
JOAN
June 23 at night. This summer solstice celebration
includes firecrackers in the streets, fireworks
at
Montjïuc and Tibidabo, bonfires, and some major
street parties.

FESTIVAL
DEL GREC A great
summer arts festival featuring theatre, dance, music,
and performance
art, taking place in
the greek amphitheatre
on Montjuïc, in Poble
Espanyol, in Plaça del Rei, in Palau de
la Musica and in other outdoor parks around Barcelona.
